How to include equation in text in winfig? I tried $(x_i)^2 but it shows the same text without subscript or superscript.

You have to activate LaTeX preview in the settings. For this to work, you need a LaTeX installation (i.e. MikTeX). Also, this only makes sense if you export to LaTeX. See the FAQ. It's the first item there: http://www.schmidt-web-berlin.de/winfig/faq.shtml
